Garden Equipment Checklist: What You Need

Downpatrick Farm & Garden Supplies • May 06, 2021

There are certain gardening tools you just can’t be without if you want your garden or outdoor space to look its best! No doubt it can be a little bit overwhelming if you don’t class yourself as an experienced gardener to know what to invest in. That said, investing in a few versatile items is going to help you keep things in top condition and ensure your garden is looking great, all year round.

Read on to discover our essential gardening equipment and what’s on our checklist.

A Chainsaw

Whether it's for pruning trees and bushes or for cutting logs or removing trees, a chainsaw is a versatile piece of equipment that is certainly worth the investment. Chainsaws are available in three different kinds, electric, cordless or petrol. All are well suited to different gardening tasks but generally speaking, electric is better for light pruning and, cordless for moderate cutting jobs and petrol is better for heavy-duty cutting.

Strimmers

There isn’t too much point in mowing your grass unless you invest in some strimmers to reach those awkward areas and keep things looking good! Strimmers are ideal for you especially if your garden has those difficult nooks and crannies which are tough to reach or a patio or decking where grass runs right up to the edges. This is a great piece of equipment for really enhancing your outdoor space.

A leaf blower

If your garden has lots of leafy areas such as trees or bushes a leaf blower is ideal for clearing up the debris in your garden. They can even be used for drying off garden furniture or clearing your guttering. These machines are simple to use and alleviate the hassle of having to have to pick up all the debris and wet leaves in your garden - something not many of us enjoy doing!

Hedge trimmers

A hedge trimmer is a fantastic investment for saving you (and your arms) and making hedge trimming much easier. Realistically, if you’ve got a small garden hedge, you may be better off with some shears. Although, if you have got lots of leafy bushes a hedge trimmer is certainly the best option as it's going to make your life a lot easier. If you have taller hedges in your garden, you may want to opt for a long-reach trimmer instead as this type is going to allow you to reach the top of the hedge with ease.
